This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I was just watching my Utena DVDs and I noticed in the episode Her Tragedy, Akio tells Nanami that rule 34 states that middle school students can't sleep out of their assigned quarters. I thought that was pretty hilarious...of all the numbers for the creators of the series to pick, they picked 34. It's so fitting for Akio. XD

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. I laughed so hard I almost cried.

LOL!!!! Rule 34. Epic 4chan win on SKU. I think this made my day.

Offline

The Rule 34 of the Internet: "If something exists, there is porn about it."
Google it some time, though I would recommend doing it at work.

Ooooh okay.

What's really funny is that subsequent events in that episode prove that Ohtori Academy also has an unwritten Rule 35: If a student sleeps outside their assigned quarters, their new sleeping arrangement becomes the Akio Tower. This rule is designed to expedite the operation of the Internet's Rule 34.

I didn't notice that until the second time I watched the series and I spent a lot of time wondering whether it was deliberate or not/

I agree with you completely. Akio even told Nanami that he was trying to start a harem! I did feel bad for Tsuwabuki because he almost got to have Nanami to himself before Akio came by.

Not possible, since the meme wasn't yet invented, back then. It doesn't date back many years. It's funny, but things like YouTube, Wikipedia and TV Tropes are all products of the latter half of the past decade, and now we take them for granted, like they always existed...

Actually, I probably should have noticed it because I first saw the series on the internet in early 2009 and then I re-watched it this summer.

Oh, for sure. Birth of a supervillain right there.

Akio: Do I know about Rule 34? My dear...
*turns around to face the viewer, slowly, creepily*
*camera zooms in on Akio's lips. His voice changes and sounds, oddly, like Emperor Palpatine*
Akio: I AM Rule 34!

lol, loved that piece of SKUpidity. It reminded of Azumanga Daioh when Osaka reveals: "I am the murderer" ...I even read it in that voice >__>

Akio: I AM Rule 34!
Epic. This fits the SKUpidity so well.

Why didn't I realize this until now?
Wait, was 4chan created in 1997?
Nope, it was created in 2003, as indicated by Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4chan
Hmm... does that mean Utena was predicting the coming of 4chan?

Koshernova, I'd like to quote your dialogue for my signature.
