This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I am not sure if this has been discussed, but if not it is happening now.
Because i would like the masses to come to a decision to figure out this rare and elusive creature.
So any ways the great debate in my head is this
Is chu-chu mouse or monkey.
In the curry episode we see mr. chu chu and Saionji eat the curry and boom, they switch. Then we see chu-chu Saionji which is freggin amazing and well saionji is up in a tree eating some bananas. So yeah, this would lead you to think Chu-chu is a monkey of some sort.
But then... later in the series towards the end of the black rose arc when anthy keeps disappearing to have some love time with her bro, Chu- chu is found by Mikage in a wait for it...a MOUSE TRAP...
So what is Chu-chu...
We can band together Utena fans, or maybe come to a conculsion maybe chu-chu is some hybrid spawn!!!

Yes.
And I'm pretty sure that's what Ikuni would say as well.

He's a mutant pygmy marmoset who secretly harbors a piece of Anthy's soul.

Once upon a time, a mouse was taking a stroll when she caught sight of a bad boy monkey running from the law. He had escaped from a nearby prison...they had locked him up in a "zoo." His crime? Being wild. She knew she shouldn't be, but she couldn't help being attracted to him. After all, she was no goody goody herself despite her timid appearance.. she knew how to live dangerously. She had stolen the cheese from her share of mousetraps and lived to tell the tale. She approached him and asked him out on a date. He accepted. A short time later, Chu Chu was born.

I feel like there is a small monkey thing that really exists, with large eyes and ears, that has a penchant for sweets. ???

He is?
I knew it.
(That being said, I've always just assumed he's much like other anime mascots. He's a mouse AND a monkey. Chu-Chu is Chu-Chu and nothing but Chu-Chu.)

That's the frog, silly . Chu-Chu is what is left of Anthy's optimism, freedom and innocence. Thus is why the frog is all up in his grill, wanting that there magic, maidenly kiss to revert him back to his princely form! But Chu-Chu, like Anthy, is entwined more with Akio's little scheme.
It must be Akio's baking.
