This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

If anybody is curious, my ultimate plan is to make a list of LBGT movies for our resource center including IMDB ratings and a short description for each film. I'd also like to purchase some of the better films from the list to add to our future film library. Soooo, if you guys all say that RENT is the best movie ever, I'll probably go out and buy it.
Ah...I see. I totally think that "The Incredibly True Story of Two Girls in Love" is a great pick, because it deals with being a lesbian during high school and it's just a great, great film.

Was cruising through for good movie ideas, and was surprised no one mentioned Imagine Me and You. It's really good! Piper Perabo is basically a goddess.

I hadn't seen this one listed, so....
Sommersturm or Summer Storm, is an incredibly wonderful movie about a boy who begins to discover and define his sexuality. I first watched this movie as an assignment from my soc. professor freshman year. It's a wonderful portrait of a teenager truly discovering his body, his wants, needs, and who he is in society.

In the interest of being comprehensive (and hopes that people will post more movies I haven't seen or have forgotten):
Spider Lilies
Lilies
I Shot Andy Warhol
Adventures in the Ojai Underground
The Children's Hour
Gregg Araki's Teen Apocalypse Trilogy: Totally Fucked Up, Doom Generation, and Nowhere (and pretty much everything else he's done)
Gods and Monsters
Kinsey
Summer Vacation 1999 (the film adaptation of Moto Hagio's Heart of Thomas, with a cast of women all playing boys)
Any decent film adaptation of Twelfth Night or As You Like it has some homosexual content atop and through the crossdressing

I second High Art and My Summer of Love.
Though Total Eclipse is hands down the favorite of mine in this category.

Sebastiane, Caravaggio, Edward II...actually, I'll make this easier for you all. The entire filmography of Derek Jarman, with a few exceptions.

I'm not sure if you're interested only in American LBGT movies, but when it comes to Spanish cinema - Pedro Almodóvar's movies.
Law of Desire & Bad education are two notable examples.

BTW, Reaching For The Moon has one of the best kissing scenes I've seen. I totally adore it!

Sancharram (The Journey) is one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, telling the story of two childhood friends who gradually realise and explore their love for each other. The film addresses some of the same issues as Utena--
--and was made by a director who "hopes to raise awareness about the alarming rate of lesbian women committing suicide within Kerala, and send young women a message about courage and hope that could eventually help them reach out of the isolation they live and often die in." It's one of the few DVDs I own, and I watch it whenever I feel in need of that "courage and hope."

Whoa this is really good, I'll have to watch some of these. The only one I've seen so far that's on this list is Happy Together and I definitely like that movie a lot.

Necro-ing to include Paris Is Burning. (I know you probablyyyy don't need to add to the list anymore though, hahaha) Doesn't focus 100% on LGBT aspects, but the elements that are in there are integral to the makeup of the drag scene in the 80's. A great documentary.
