This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

This might have fit in the "back in North America" thread, but I thought it was noteworthy enough to have its own thread. Mods can correct me if I'm wrong.
I sent the following email to Rightstuf:
Greetings,
I recently received the final Utena boxed set from Rightstuf and the promotional Utena signet ring with it. I am quite delighted with the quality and accuracy of the ring, but I am concerned about damaging it through wear and not having access to a replacement. Is there any chance these rings will be made available for ordering as stand-alone merchandise? Depending on the price, I would be highly interested in purchasing several more.
Hoping for a positive reply,
<name>
And I received the following response:
Hello <name>,
Thank you for the email,
I took you're[sic] suggestion to the CEO and he said we can sell them at $10.00 each. If you wish to place an order you can contact us by phone or email.
Have a nice day!
Alvaro
So I did. Despite what I was told, it had to be a phone order, as they can't take CC info through email. And the result, or rather the five results:
I thought having six altogether would be appropriate, one for each Duelist. My actual original promo ring will be "Utena", the rest represent the other five (Juri, Miki, Touga, Saionji, Nanami. I don't count Ruka. )
If you've always wanted a ring, here's your chance. That price is shockingly cheap for the quality that you get. It's not perfect, only size 7, and no good if you have a nickel allergy, but hey, ten dollars. Plus it's official merchandise.
Anyway, just letting people know.

Plan:
Meet significant other
Show them Utena (okay, so these parts are sort of a given for life, but bear with me)
Keep this a secret from significant other
When I pop the question, propose with a Rose Seal ring
Only flaw is that I would have to not wear mine around them, and that might be a problem.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Mylene and I will be ordering one later today (or Monday if they don't take calls on weekends).

Wow, that's pretty incredible of them. Thanks RightStuf!!! (They can't be making much of a profit selling them this way, can they?)

o_o Whoa what. Did you have to call a special number?

Just their normal service phone number, which is 1-800-338-6827.

Wow thanks so much for telling us!!! So looking forward to this!

Hmm...I'm mildly dissappointed. I was hoping to save my ring in the original package and sell it to a crazy collector five years later for at least $100. Oh well...

You'll just have to buy a few more rings. They can't have too many!

Sell your bara no kokuin for money?
Somewhere, Akio is smirking at the thought.

Hi, all! It's been a while, but I've been lurking on and off and reading your posts about the DVD set.
This post re: the rose signets just came to our attention today. And I'm sorry to report that the OK to do this didn't go through all the correct channels.
(It was a mistake that was communicated to our customer care team and then eventually to y'all.)
The Utena rings are NOT available for standalone purchase at this time. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

Aw that's too bad. I forgot to pre-order so I missed out, and I was all excited to get one.

We still have rings available if you order all three sets (even separately) from RightStuf.com. (They ship with the third set.) We just can't sell the rings separately from the sets right now.
Again, I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

How very odd. This only further proves that I am blessed by the goddesses Utena and Anthy.
So the CEO isn't the "correct channels"? Well, don't expect me to send them back to you...
In any case, I hope you can see that there is a market for this item, so I'd have your people seriously consider allowing this at some point in the future.
Also, I hope Mr. Alvaro didn't get in trouble for this. When it comes to providing customer satisfaction, he did his job well - too well, it seems?

I am sure you are completely sold out of Utena rings since this was posted so long ago but I have to ask if you have any of these left.

How odd that this thread should resurface just as I was planning to link to it from elsewhere.
If you're talking to me, then you're quite wrong. I would never sell the extras that I was lucky enough to - illicitly? - acquire. Having recently given one to my mother as a memento of finishing Utena, I still have four extra remaining (i.e. five counting the one I wear myself). However, as I say, I wouldn't be interested in parting with them.

I wonder if Rightstuf still has any left, themselves. I'd love to be able to get one for someone who might as well be my little sister, who enjoys this show just as much as I do.

Thank you for your quick response. I am needing to find a ring for a cosplay I am doing cause my friend who is going thru Kemo therapy's favorite anime was Utena and I was planning on cosplaying Utena and visiting her..even if the ring isn't a huge part I was planning on giving it to her before I left and telling her to stay strong. I will keep looking someone else thank you.

If anyone can point me in the right direction of where I could get the ring for a reasonable price I would be very grateful.

There's this etsy listing (which seems fairly stable, as I've seen it there for months):

But yeah, other than that, cheap rings are sadly hard to find
