This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Not really fond of the character designs. They look...off. Like, I get what they were going for with them, they wanted to imitate Takeuchi's style. But they just ended up looking odd to me, kind of like game sprites or something. Maybe they'll look better once they're moving around though.

You know, I actually really like them! I would have been happy with them going even more extreme towards her style, but as it is, it looks pretty good to me. I was never actually a big SM fan, but I might watch a bit of this just out of curiosity for how they do it. Are they going to try to stick with the tone of the original? The manga? Are they going to age it a little tiny bit given that it's being aimed at an older nostalgia crowd (I'm assuming?) There was a lot of genderbending and homogay, and that's gone from okay at the time to furiously embraced if not demanded, so I'm curious to see if they play it up instead of down.

Viz to Release Remastered, Uncut Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon Crystal

It's about time. Sailor Moon Gold and Sailor Moon Silver really needed an update; I couldn't even choose the sex of the protagonist!

Ah I've heard of it. Everyone's really happy that Neptun and Uranus won't be cousins anymore.
The character designs of the new anime look pretty fine to me. I don't know anything about a possible release in my country though.

Also, Viz is going to start streaming the series on Hulu for free tomorrow, four episodes at a time.

Actually, the stream debuted with four episodes on May 19, and they'll be adding two episodes every Monday after. More details about the both the stream of the remaster and the upcoming reboot are here, and an interview with a couple of Viz staffers about the behind-the-scenes details is here.

Checked out the first four episodes of the stream yesterday. Not only did my nostalgia explode everywhere but it was neat to finally see one of the episodes that never came over in dub form. Didn't think I'd have a reason to look forward to Mondays but I've been proven wrong before.
