This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I vote to help Anthy!

The next time I get to play a visual novel with a male protagonist, I'm definitely naming him Bob. Yamada Bob. You're extremely average half Japanese, half American protagonist.
That's some cold shit right there, Razara.
Funny as hell, yes, but still. That's cold.
Wasn't meant to be cold. Despite somehow always getting every girl they come in contact with, visual novel protagonists are usually extremely average, thus giving him two very common names in English and Japanese.
It would be the opposite of Tanaka Yubiseiharukana from Ever 17, who was given a very unusual first name because her father felt bad that she had such a common surname. I remember her first name out of spite.

Vote: Burn the witch!
I'm... not entirely sure what that's a vote for. Leave Anthy to the natural Anthy-slapping laws of the universe? Or interfere so we can potentially burn her ourselves?
Offline
You're right, I guess burning her isn't quite the same as either helping her or keeping an eye on things. Silly Choose Your Own Adventure books, always omitting the choice I want to make...
Revote: Do not interfere with Citizen Saionji's lawful witch-slappery!
Offline
As much as I love Saionji, I don't like it when he slaps Anthy. I vote interfere.

This option will, more likely than not, have very little impact on the plot. However, it does reflect a question that will probably come up a lot when choosing an answer: do we want D-ko to be a prince, or a princess?
We should probably get an idea of whose route we want to complete, or risk picking so many mixed answering that we get a Bad End. Or do we want a bad end, if it means D-ko going to the Nemuro Hall for counseling?
Personally, I favor going down Juri's route. That, or Anthy's secret route for the sake of seeing a duel with the Mallet of Dios.

Wow, very excited.
I vote not to interfere.
And please no spoilers Razara.
Offline
Sorry. I haven't played the game, and I didn't realize that screenshots from the gallery counted as spoilers.
Offline
Ahh ok.
It's just that I don't know anything about what you've referenced yet, and I don't want to know.
I think we should do it as Dallbun said:
Now, there are a couple of sites around that will tell you the results of different actions and how to get certain endings, but in my opinion it will be more fun if we take each choice as it comes without worrying about the end result.

Interfere! There will be no girl slapping in my presence
Offline
Yes please interfere. I really dislike Saionji when he starts slapping girls.
Offline
I vote for interference. And give him a good kick in the balls while you're at it.

Princely goody two-shoes-ness manages to win out over understandable caution.
D-ko:
Hey, stop it!
Hitting a girl like that... you call yourself a man?
Saionji:
What the... who the hell are you?
D-ko:
I'm Kageno D-ko, a transfer student.
Saionji:
People should kindly not meddle in things that don't concern them.
D-ko:
It does concern me! I'm a girl too!
Saionji:
...honestly, first Tenjou Utena, and now this girl.
If you're just a transfer student, then why...
Utena:
What was that about me?
Saionji:
Tenjou...
Anthy:
Utena-sama...
Utena:
Stay away from Anthy, Saionji!
Saionji:
You again?
Utena:
...
Saionji:
Hmmph. Fine, then.
Soon I'll duel you and take back the Rose Bride.
Anthy, please endure until then.
(he leaves)
Utena:
Himemiya, are you okay?
Anthy:
Yes, I'm fine, Utena-sama.
Utena:
I want to thank you, too, uh...
D-ko:
Kageno D-ko. I'm a 2nd year in the Middle School.
I just transferred here today.
Utena:
Yeah? I'm Tenjou Utena. This is Himemiya Anthy.
And that love-struck idiot from before was...
Anthy:
Utena-sama, classes are about to begin.
Utena:
Oh, right.
(It would be cool if we ended up in the same class.)
See you later!
D-ko:
Ah, wait a minute!
...they already left.
She's really cool! ...and that girl with the glasses was cute as well.
For some reason, I feel like something good is going to happen!
Hey, some roses just appeared around Utena there in the upper right, and two of them turned red! Looks like we just scored some points with her. Maybe we're a little closer to "drawing the sword of her heart" so to speak. "Revolutionizing her world." "Helping her chick taste the air of freedom." So to speak.
...actually, this isn't an H-game. Oh, well.
By the way... amusingly enough, although the game is fully voice acted, everyone just pauses for a moment whenever they're supposed to be saying the protagonist's name. It's seriously like "I'm ______, a transfer student."
Teacher: (Male)
Starting from today, a new classmate will be joining you in your studies,
here in Middle School 2nd Year, Class C.
You... before you sit down, please introduce yourself.
D-ko:
Self introduction, huh?
First impressions are really important, so I've gotta do this properly.
Hello! I'm Kageno D-ko.
I'm coming from a public middle school, so this will be my first experience with dorm life.
I'm looking forward to finding out what it's like!
Um, my dorm is...
Teacher:
Actually, your dorm hasn't been decided yet.
Please ask after school, when you go to introduce yourself to the Chairman of the Board.
Your bags should have arrived by then, as well.
D-ko:
Uh, sure!
I don't understand the addresses or campus at all yet, so everyone, please help me out!
(Sound of footsteps. Did Utena just get here late somehow, even though she left before us?
Probably held up by that one teacher. Either that, or we're just walking to our own seat.)
Utena:
Hey, we meet again.
D-ko:
Oh, Utena-san!
Utena:
Just "Utena" is fine.
In exchange, I'll just call you by your given name too, okay?
Adding "san" and "kun" and all that is a pain, right?
D-ko:
Utena... Tenjou Utena, huh?
Getting to make friends with someone like her on my first day is really lucky!
Now that I've gotten to know her, I want to talk some more, but...
What should I talk about?
CHOICE:
Do you have a girlfriend?
Do you have a boyfriend?
Heh! Screw moral quandries about whether to confront Saionji or not not. This is what I call a choice!
Offline
I say ask if she has a girlfriend. (Oh, wait, we already know the answer to that. )
Offline
Definitely girlfriend.
Offline
Due to the lack of estimated votes my mind forsees, I will select boyfriend, just to be a bitch.
Offline
Pry into her sex life with "Tooga" and see if she's got the hots for him.
(Vote boyfriend)
Offline
Boyfriend, and pretending the gaydar isn't beeping.
Offline
I say Ask Her If She Has a Girlfriend. I'm sure it's what Ikuhara would have wanted. She calls D-ko by her first name, and suddenly gets questioned out having a girlfriend.
When the series continues, Utena goes back to using "-san" to address Kanae and Shiori, because in side she's thinking, "If I call her by her first name will she think I'm into girls and in front of Anthy and the chairman what if I get kicked out of school for that oh my god oh my god *paranoia*."
It all makes sense.

Hah, sounds about right to me. Of course, I was already prepared to add this game to my personal canon, just because it adds to Anthy's slap count.
For the record, current votes are 4 for "girlfriend" and 3 for "boyfriend." I'm not closing it yet or anything, though.
Offline
Boyfriend. Just to be a stinker.
Offline
Please change my vote to girlfriend!
Because I want to see the next part.
Offline
This should be interesting.
I vote to ask Utena about her sex life with Anthy, though we all know she's tappin that a-.....yeeeeeeaaaaaaah.
(Vote: Girlfriend)
