Revolutionary Girl Utena: Adolescence Apocalypse had two entire albums of hype before the release of the official movie soundtrack. Though the creative team is the same, the music for the film has a very different overall flavor to that of the series, more consistently orchestral and frankly, just downright eerie. Pieces like Rose Brand ~ Bride in the Sku Garden and Belladonna's Trap have a dark, amost Black Rose kind of feel to them, while the perkier pieces such as an absolutely bonkers remix of Rondo-revolution stand out as eccentric enough to be memorable.

Pound for pound, pop is well represented here, with Masami Okui (奥井雅美) returning for another single with At Times, Love..., and a symphonic version of I Want to Be Your Fiancé present, a new song by Mitsuhiro Oikawa (及川光博), movie Akio's voice actor. (And the only notable deviation from the original series cast.) The vocal version however only appears on his single.

The two duels for this film are previously released in a different form in OST 7, Revival Record of the Rose Egg SOFIA. They are lyrically made of the same stuff, with Duelist ~Revive! Infinite History of the [Middle Ages] having the stanzas moved around some and Rose Naked Body ~ Shura - Flesh Constellation in the αψζ Nebula- excluding some material in the OST 7 version.

My father is seated at the dining room table and turns on the T.V. As usual, my father’s eyes and my eyes don’t intersect. The light shines through the lacy curtain and illuminates the dishes on the table. The light is warm and the voice of a female announcer on the TV is soft. My wife appears to the dining room in her nightgown, her hair is tousled from sleeping and she has a sexy bodyline. My father gives her a morning greeting with moderate respect. My wife responds with a yawn instead of a greeting. My mother turns her face away after seeing my wife's response to her husband. The women are not getting along in this house. On the TV, there are reports about accidents and affairs that happened last night and I watch that on the TV while I eat my breakfast. Both tragedy and joy are playing across the screen. I put myself into the position of tragedy and joy in my head. I am prosecuted for corruption, become the toughest man in the world, receive the Rookie of the Year award, created an economic success and then I am killed in action. Being killed in action... That’s where I woke up under the bed. It is inevitable that I haven’t become a headline, yet.

It was four years ago. They were already waiting for me in the middle of a room with a wonderful night view. A handsome looking leader in a red shirt suddenly offered me a temptation, “We want you to be our accomplice.” A sturdy looking young man and another young man with intellectual eyes urged me to make my decision to follow the other young man’s request by saying，“You need to do the world revolution.” In spite of my lack of careful consideration, my response to their request was，“Please let me be in your group.” Then the young man whom I thought to have intellectual eyes joyously started to jump around the room saying，“hop, hop!” The leader fell off from the chair, and the sturdy looking young man started to laugh loudly. That，s the night in a French restaurant inside a skyscraper in Shinjuku when 丨 became a member of Be-papas and the Starting point of a full-scaled UTENA. I long for that moment now.

As I am writing this manuscript, the songs are not yet done. Therefore I am writing you as a greeting from the past to the audiences of the future. How was it? Have you enjoyed it? Well, I have no idea what kind of music will be made at this point. I am such an irresponsible composer. However, I kind of know how my music would be and it would definitely and undoubtedly be the music of UTENA. While I create the music of UTENA, somehow I don’t feel like I’m the one who writes the music. Instead the melody flows out from me naturally. In a sense, all of the finished music is the product of what I see, hear, and feel in my daily life and that’s what would be brought out in front of the audience. Therefore, my music is something very personal and I am kind of embarrassed. However this is who I am now, without any fiction. My appreciation to those who gave me a chance to be true to myself!

Once again history is about to begin. Tons of knowledge from memory are invading unknown territory to create a new world. If this new world is something like what King Solomon quoted- “All novel things are nothing else but the forgotten things,” what is it that I forgot in UTENA?Is it a “DREAM”, “HOPE”, or “THE ORGANISM THAT NAMED I”...? However, they all continue to change. Then, what are the changing “forgotten things” becoming to me now? Or perhaps unknowningly, I myself have become “the forgotten thing”... Until I understand that I will probably keep watching UTENA. It’ll be just like how I still continue doing my music, theater and art…
